Blackgum

Blackgum (Nyssa sylvatica) also known as black tupelo, tupelo, tupelogum or sourgum. Blackgum is in the Cornaceae or dogwood family. It is a deciduous medium to large tree. It typically grows 50 to 80 feet tall with a diameter of 24 to 36 inches. Blackgum has moderate growth rate and longevity. Trees have dense foliage and a conical crown. It is a beautiful landscape or ornamental tree. The flowers are important for honey production and the fruit is a valuable wildlife food source.
