Mockernut Hickory

Mockernut hickory (Carya tomentosa) is grouped with the “true hickories”. It is a deciduous tree, typically reaching a height of 65 to 100 feet tall and 24 to 36 inches in diameter. Trees can live up to 250 years. It is an important wildlife tree, and the wood is moderately important for the production of tool handles, lumber, fuelwood and smoking meats.
